Quinine (US /ˈkwaɪnaɪn/ UK /ˈkwɪniːn/ or /kwɪˈniːn/ KWIN-een) is a natural white crystalline alkaloid having antipyretic (fever-reducing) antimalarial analgesic (painkilling) and anti-inflammatory properties and a bitter taste. It is a stereoisomer of quinidine which unlike quinine is an antiarrhythmic.
