Propofol (INN marketed as Diprivan by AstraZeneca) is a short-acting intravenously administered hypnotic/amnestic agent. Its uses include the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia sedation for mechanically ventilated adults and procedural sedation. Propofol is also commonly used in veterinary medicine.
