Precapillary resistance is the concept in which capillaries are able to utilize vasomotion either opening by act of dilating and letting blood pass through or constricting their lumen reducing bloodflow through the capillary bed whereby occluding passage of blood. It is not entirely clear how the precapillary resistance is created in many parts of the body.Precapillary sphincters are smooth muscle structures that mediate the precapillary resistance in the mesenteric microcirculation.
