Pop-rap (or known as pop rap or hip pop) is a genre of music which combines hip hop music with elements of pop music which gained mainstream popularity during the 2000s. It tends to combine hip-hop beats with catchy hooks and choruses similar to what’s heard in pop music. The influences and roots of pop rap trace back to late 1980s hip hop artists such as Run DMC LL Cool J and Beastie Boys.
