Pleurocidin family of antimicrobial peptides was found in the skin mucous secretions of the winter flounder (Pleuronectes americanus) and these peptides exhibit antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli. The formula is C129H192N36O29. Pleurocidin assumes an amphipathic alpha-helical conformation similar to other linear antimicrobial peptides and may play a role in innate host defence.
