Piscirickettsia salmonis is a bacteria. It is the causative agent of an epizootic disease in salmonid fishes piscirickettsiosis. It replicates within membrane-bound cytoplasmic vacuoles in host cells. Its type strain is ATCC(R) VR 1361. It has a major impact in salmon populations having a mortality rate of about 90% in some species of fish.
