Pierre Mendès France (French: [pjɛʁ mɑ̃dɛs fʁɑ̃s]; 11 January 1907 – 18 October 1982) was a French politician who served as President of the Council of Ministers (equivalent to Prime Minister) in 1954-55. It was under the government of Mendès France that France withdrew its military forces from Vietnam in 1954. He is known for his unusual habit of drinking milk during speeches to the chamber during his Prime Ministership.
