In enzymology a phosphoglucokinase (EC 2.7.1.10) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reactionATP + alpha-D-glucose 1-phosphate ADP + alpha-D-glucose 16-bisphosphateThus the two substrates of this enzyme are ATP and alpha-D-glucose 1-phosphate whereas its two products are ADP and alpha-D-glucose 16-bisphosphate.This enzyme belongs to the family of transferases specifically those transferring phosphorus-containing groups (phosphotransferases) with an alcohol group as acceptor.
