Escherichia coli (/ˌɛʃəˈrɪkiə ˈkoʊlɪ/ Anglicized to /ˌɛʃəˈrɪkiə ˈkoʊlaɪ/; commonly abbreviated E. coli) is a gram-negative rod-shaped bacterium that is commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms (endotherms).
