Benzone redirects here. It is not to be confused with benzene. Oxybenzone or benzophenone-3 (trade names Eusolex 4360 Escalol 567 KAHSCREEN BZ-3) is an organic compound used in sunscreens. The molecule was first synthesized in 1906 but the method for commercial production was not patented until 1975. It forms colorless crystals that are readily soluble in most organic solvents. Oxybenzone belongs to the class of aromatic ketones known as benzophenones.
