Normethadone (INN BAN; brand names Cophylac Dacartil Eucopon Mepidon Noramidone Normedon and others) also known as desmethylmethadone or phenyldimazone is a synthetic opioid analgesic and antitussive agent.[citation needed] Similarly to methadone normethadone has a long duration and a slow onset of action and is approximately between one- and two-thirds as potent in comparison.[citation needed]
