The New Zealand Educational Institute (Te Riu Roa NZEI) is the largest education trade union in New Zealand. It was founded in 1883 and has a membership of 51000.The Union represents teachers as the early childhood and primary levels and school support staff.Despite being the largest union in New Zealand NZEI have little power to represent their members in an accurate fashion generally preferring to tackle easy (though genuinely important) issues that they are sure the public support.
