The New Democratic Front (NDF) is a newly formed political party in Sri Lanka.[citation needed] An offshoot of the Democratic United National Front and a constituent partner of the United National Front the party is led by Ariyawansa Dissanayake. The symbol of the party is a swan. General Sarath Fonseka a former Chief of Defence Staff and commander of the Sri Lanka Army is the party’s candidate for the 2010 presidential Elections.
