Nauete (Naóti) is a language spoken by 13634 (census 2010) in the subdistricts of Uato-Lari Uatucarbau and Baguia in southeastern East Timor. 1062 Naueti are living in Baguia.The classification of Nauete is unclear. It is not closely related to other languages. Structurally it is Malayo-Polynesian. However its vocabulary is largely Papuan similar to that of Makasae. It is one of several such languages included under the name Kawaimina.
