Myopathy simply means muscle disease (myo- Greek μυο muscle + pathos -pathy Greek suffering). This meaning implies that the primary defect is within the muscle as opposed to the nerves (neuropathies or neurogenic disorders) or elsewhere (e.g. the brain etc.).
