Mycolactone is a polyketide-derived macrolide produced and secreted by a group of very closely related pathogenic mycobacteria that have been assigned a variety of species names including M. ulcerans M. liflandii (an unofficial designation) M. pseudoshottsii and some strains of M. marinum.
