Mumia Abu-Jamal (born Wesley Cook on April 24 1954) is an American prisoner convicted for the 1981 murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. His original sentence of death handed down at his first trial in July 1982 was commuted to life imprisonment without parole in 2012.
