Monte Sano State Park is a 2140-acre (866 ha) Alabama state park and mountaintop retreat located in Huntsville on the eastern portion of the top and slopes of Monte Sano Mountain. The park has 1930s-era Civilian Conservation Corps–built rustic cottages hiking trails with scenic overlooks picnic areas and modern campsites. The park opened August 25 1938 and was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on June 19 1996.
