Monoamine oxidase A also known as MAO-A is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the MAOA gene. Monoamine oxidase A is an isozyme of monoamine oxidase. It preferentially deaminates norepinephrine (noradrenaline) epinephrine (adrenaline) serotonin and dopamine (which is equally deaminated by MAO-A and MAO-B).It is inhibited by clorgyline and befloxatone.
