A misericorde (/ˌmɪzərɪˈkɔrd/ or /-zɛrɪ-/) was a long narrow knife used in medieval times to deliver the death stroke (the mercy stroke hence the name of the blade derived from the Latin misericordia act of mercy) to a seriously wounded knight.
