The Ministry of People’s Security (Korean: 인민 보안부 Inmin Boanbu) functions primarily as the police and law enforcement agency in North Korea. According to the Public Security Regulation Law adopted by the Supreme People’s Assembly the unicameral parliament of North Korea in 1992 and modified in 1999 the ministry is tasked with defending the sovereignty and socialist system of North Korea as well as protecting the constitutional rights lives and assets of the people.
