The Middle Rio Grande AVA is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in the watershed of the Rio Grande in central New Mexico that was established in 1988. The AVA encompasses 278400 acres (112664 ha) of land in a narrow strip along the Rio Grande valley from Santa Fe to Belen just south of Albuquerque. The land ranges from 4000 to 6500 feet (1200 to 2000 m) in elevation. The climate is semi-arid with warm days and cool nights.
