Microscopic colitis refers to two medical conditions which cause diarrhea: collagenous colitis and lymphocytic colitis. Both conditions are characterised by the following triad of clinicopathological features: Chronic watery diarrhoea; Normal colonoscopy; Characteristic histopathology (inflammatory cells).
