Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the methyl cycle and it is encoded by the MTHFR gene. Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase catalyzes the conversion of 510-methylenetetrahydrofolate to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate a cosubstrate for homocysteine remethylation to methionine.
