The Matilda Awards are awards which recognise excellence in cabaret dance theatre and performance in Brisbane the Australian state capital of Queensland and are the only awards to do so in that state. Established in 1987 by Alison Cotes and Sue Gough the awards are an annual event now hosted by the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts.The awards are voted by a panel of industry personnel and critics 50% of which must have seen the show for it to be nominated or judged.
