Ludwig des Coudres (1820–1878) was a German historical portrait and genre painter.He was born at Cassel in 1820 and pursued his first studies under J. von Schnorr at the Academy of Munich. He travelled in Italy in 1844-5 and placed himself in 1848-49 under Karl Sohn at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He is associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting. In 1855 he was appointed professor in the School of Arts at Carlsruhe in which city he died in 1878.
