Litoxetine (SL 81-0385) is an antidepressant which was under clinical development for the treatment of depression in the early 1990s. It acts as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor and 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It has prominent antiemetic properties and unlike the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) it was shown to have a negligible incidence of nausea and emesis. Development of litoxetine for medicinal use was apparently halted in the late 1990s.
