Line 1 of the Madrid Metro runs entirely underground from Pinar de Chamartín in the north to Valdecarros in the southeast via Sol. It has a total of 33 stations (with 60-metre-long platforms) and its total length is 24 km (14.9 mi). The line first opened between Cuatro Caminos and Sol on 17 October 1919. On 11 April 2007 Line 1 was extended to Pinar de Chamartin in the north and on 16 May 2007 to Valdecarros to the south.
