The Liga Nacional de Ascenso is the second level of Panama’s national football club championship. It was founded in 1997 and it consists of 8 teams who play to gain promotion to Liga Panameña de Fútbol. From 2008 the champion plays a playoff against the bottom team in the Liga Panameña de Fútbol in order to gain promotion while the bottom team of the league is relegated to the Copa Rommel Fernández.
