Lexy Ortega is an Italian chess Grandmaster. Born in 1960 at Camagüey Cuba in 1991 he emigrated to Italy tranferring his nationality and playing for this country ever since. As a youth he was a judo champion but a broken foot incident (1974) abruptly ended his martial arts career. Thereafter he turned completely to chess and very soon he won the 1978 Cuban junior chess championship (Under-18).
