Lepidurus packardi is a rare species of tadpole shrimp known by the common name vernal pool tadpole shrimp. It is native to California and southern Oregon where it lives in an endangered type of habitat the vernal pool and other freshwater aquatic habitats. It is a federally listed endangered species of the United States.This crustacean is about 5 centimeters (2.0 in) long. It has a shield-like carapace up to 3.5 cm (1.4 in) long.
