The Kuomintang (/ˌkwoʊmɪnˈtɑːŋ/ or /-ˈtæŋ/; KMT) officially the Kuomintang of China or sometimes romanized as Guomindang by its Pinyin transliteration is the current ruling political party in Taiwan. The name literally means the Chinese National People’s Party but is more often translated as the Chinese Nationalist Party.The predecessor of the KMT the Revolutionary Alliance was one of the major advocates of the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of a republic.
