Originally tea in Korean referred to an aromatic beverage prepared by pouring hot water over treated (but not fermented or oxidated) leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant. However nowadays tea in Korea also refers to beverages from other sources. These are officially called replacement tea (대용차). Thus Korean tea (Korean: 차 Korean pronunciation: [tɕʰaː]) is a common name for a variety of herbal and plant infusions including the leaves of the tea bush (Camellia sinensis).
