Kern Valley State Prison (KVSP) is a male-only state prison in Delano California. Kern Valley is a Level IV Maximum Security institution. This prison houses 4171 inmates with a design capacity of 2448 or 170.4 percent. Kern Valley opened in June 2005 and has an annual operating budget of US$123 million. The facility is adjacent to the North Kern State Prison.
