Kaushik Basu (born 9 January 1952) is an Indian economist and academic who is Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank. He is on leave from Cornell University where he is the C. Marks Professor of International Studies and Professor of Economics. Prior to that he was the Chairman of the Department of Economics and Director Center for Analytic Economics at Cornell University.
