The Jupiter family of Heavy Lift Launch Vehicles is part of the proposed DIRECT Shuttle-Derived Launch Vehicle architecture. It is intended to be an alternative to the Ares I and Ares V rockets which were under development for the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Project Constellation. The rockets are planned to re-use as much hardware and facilities from the Space Shuttle program as possible.
