John Jackson was born John Wesley Jackson in Detroit Michigan to parents Anita Jackson and Johnny Ray Roberson. When John was 12 He was introduced to the sport of boxing by a friend of the family who he grew up with on the east side of Detroit. Because of his talent John was encouraged to stay in the sport even though all the friends he started with quit.
