Jim Chalmers (28 January 1901 – 11 November 1986) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1947 until 1956 . He was a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) until he resigned from the party in 1952 and then sat as an independent Labor member.Chalmers was born in Lanarkshire Scotland. He was the son of a coal miner and migrated to Australia with his family at the age of seven.
