Jim Burns was born in Preston Lancashire 1936 attending a secondary modern school before working in mills and then joining the army in 1954. Stationed mainly in Germany Jim developed a love of Jazz and American writers both easily accessible through US forces radio and bookshops stocking new literature for service personnel.
