The Janata Dal (Ajit) was a political party in India. It merged with the Indian National Congress in the early 1990s. Its leader Ajit Singh became a member of the cabinet of the Congress party government of P.V. Narasimha Rao (1991–96). Later Ajit Singh quit the congress and has now formed a new party the Rashtriya Lok Dal (National People’s Party).
