James Arnold von der Heydt (July 15 1919 – December 1 2013) was an American lawyer and judge. His last position was as a member of the United States District Court for the District of Alaska where he served for over 47 years. Von der Heydt was born in Miles City Montana. He attended Albion College where he received a B.A. degree in 1942 and the Northwestern University School of Law where he got a J.D. degree in 1951. He served as a deputy U.S. marshal in Nome Alaska from 1945-1948.
