Hypocapnia or hypocapnea also known as hypocarbia sometimes incorrectly called acapnia is a state of reduced carbon dioxide in the blood. Hypocapnia usually results from deep or rapid breathing known as hyperventilation. Hypocapnia is the opposite of hypercapnia.
