Hyperkeratosis (from Ancient Greek: ὑπέρ (hyper “over”); keratos – keratin) is thickening of the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the epidermis) often associated with the presence of an abnormal quantity of keratin and also usually accompanied by an increase in the granular layer.
