Hsiao-Hung Pai (simplified Chinese: 白晓红; traditional Chinese: 白曉紅; pinyin: Bái Xiǎohóng) (born 1968 in Taipei Taiwan) is a writer best known for her books Chinese Whispers: The True Story Behind Britain’s Hidden Army of Labour which was short-listed for the 2009 Orwell Prize and Scattered Sand:The Story of China’s Rural Migrants which won the Bread and Roses Award in 2013.Pai has lived in the UK since 1991 and holds master’s degrees from the University of Wales University of Durham and the University of Westminster.
