Sinn Féin (English: We Ourselves often mistranslated as Ourselves Alone) is the name of the Irish political party founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith. Sinn Féin provided a focus for Irish nationalism and Irish Republicanism in its various forms. Its split during the Irish Civil War in 1922 and during the Troubles in 1969 has had a dramatic effect on politics in Ireland and in Northern Ireland to this day.
