In enzymology a hexose oxidase (EC 1.1.3.5) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reactionD-glucose + O2 D-glucono-15-lactone + H2O2Thus the two substrates of this enzyme are D-glucose and O2 whereas its two products are D-glucono-15-lactone and H2O2.This enzyme belongs to the family of oxidoreductases specifically those acting on the CH-OH group of donor with oxygen as acceptor. The systematic name of this enzyme class is D-hexose:oxygen 1-oxidoreductase.
