Heinrich Pommerencke (1821–1873) was a successful portrait painter of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. He was born in 1821 and brought up in poverty but exercised his talent for art so ably that he was enabled to pursue his studies in Berlin. He also went to Paris and had the good fortune to paint the portrait of Helena Duchess of Orleans by which he gained the protection of the reigning Royal Family.
