Head lice infestation (also known as pediculosis capitis or as having nits or having cooties) the colonization of the hair by the head louse (Pediculus humanus capitis) typically only involves the head or scalp of the human host. Head lice feed on human blood; itching from lice bites is a common symptom of this condition.
