In enzymology a haloalkane dehalogenase (EC 3.8.1.5) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction1-haloalkane + H2O a primary alcohol + halideThus the two substrates of this enzyme are 1-haloalkane and H2O whereas its two products are primary alcohol and halide. This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases specifically those acting on halide bonds in carbon-halide compounds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is 1-haloalkane halidohydrolase.
