Guaifenesin INN /ɡwaɪˈfɛnɨsɪn/ or guaiphenesin (former BAN) also glyceryl guaiacolate is an expectorant drug sold over the counter and usually taken orally to assist the bringing up (expectoration) of phlegm from the airways in acute respiratory tract infections.
